i feed pre killed and i wanted to know how long usually does a pre killed mouse/rat maintain its body heat for? After i kill the mouse it is only about 10 seconds before its in rocky's mouth. i hear about people going to the pet store, having the mouse/rat killed for them there ,coming home and feeding it....i guess you would have to warm it up ??

    Hey Brandon,
I know that pythons use the heat receptors for dialing in on prey but one thing you might have forgot was there sense of taste or ability to taste the air or scent molecules hence knowing what they are about to eat. Now of course it has to have some kind of warmth to it but probably just enough to be distinguished from its surroundings. Hope this helps.

Depends on how long it takes you to get home from the store and how picky your bp is. :) I'll bet Tigergenesis' bp wouldn't put up with that.

As long as its not extremely cold to the touch, you should be ok. If you are worried about it tho you could always re-warm it up under a lamp.

the pet store over here is down the street but the store doesnt kill them for me, i just bring em home and do it myself but maybe when we move the pet store over there will kill them for me, killing big ole rats is somthing that doesnt really apeal to me to much, dont get me wrong, i will do it if i have to ....but if somebody else is willing to do it , then that is great too.

Yeah, mine is down the street 5 minutes. They kill them for me, so all I have to do is feed when I get back :)
