I'm in love! Dumerils Boa :) (Couple Questions)
I just wanted to show off my new little girl. She is a late 2013 Dumerils boa.
I don't have a name for her yet. Any Ideas?????

I had a a question I have her in a 32q tub with 4 hides and obviously a water bowl. She is on paper towel but I heard that the babies prefer to burrow.
Will she thrive on the paper towel or should I switch to Aspen?
She has been roaming her cage for about 3 hours. Not settling down. Would the aspen help calm her?
Also what size mice or rats should a baby her size eat and how often?
Also I read they prefer a cooler temperature is this true?

Any way here she is :)

Beautiful! She looks a lot like mine :)
I would use aspen, just so she can burrow as she pleases and feel more secure. They can be a little picky when it comes to eating at first, so have patience! After that though they eat like crazy.
I would try starting her off on rat pups, if available, and medium sized mice if not.

    You'll love her :gj:
    They're awesome snakes

    Good to hear :)
Make sure to give her a nice thick layer so she can burrow down into it.
As she gets older, and starts eating, you can thin the layer. That's what I've done with mine. She's getting big but still tries to bury her big butt in a small layer :P

She just got her aspen put in so hopefully that helps her settle easier.

I use aspen for my Dum too. About 2-3" of it for the babies. She's a very nice Dum - congrats!!

Do you mind me asking where you purchased your dumerils? I am trying to find a late 2013 and I am having no luck :(

Yes with dumerils go with the aspen. My girl is 1000g and 4 foot and still burrows under the substrate in a 4 foot cage. It took mine about a month until she would eat so take your time and don't worry. only offer food once a week. I now just lay the rat in the tank and she takes it within 2 minutes. no strike no nothing. dumerils are great snakes.

I'd personally go with cypress, better than aspen IME. Holds humidity better and my balls (not a dum, I know) would actually burrow through this stuff, unlike the aspen. But use whatever works for you.
Regardless, dum's are pretty and she's no exception! I love how they have smaller scales than other snakes would have. Makes them feel softer. :)

I purchased mine at our local reptile expo from World Wide Reptiles (Brad McCarthy). I recommend John Berry though (he's in GA, find him on Facebook through the Dumeril's Boa Lovers group page). John has some outstanding Dums. I'd like to pick up a male from him next year. :gj:
