hides

just curious, what do you big snake owners use for a hide box...this could include large boas to...

I work at a reptile center where we house a 13 foot burm. Is has a very large cork bark hide that it fits in nicely, and seems to enjoy. As far as the bigger boas (6-9 footers), they don't have hides. I don't think they necissarily need any, since they aren't NEAR as shy as ball pythons. If I were to notice them roaming around their enclosures, or going off feed, I would throw in a cork bark hide for them to see how they like it.

That's my thoughts.

Inverted kitty litter pans work well and come in a buncha sizes - eventually they'll fail to hold huger snakes - but the store they have them at has some pretty big ones - I imagine Neph will be good using those until she's 10-12' After that I am thinking the non-transparent tupperware bins will be the way to go.

Theres a shop around here that has a huge burm in this enclosure, they cut the bottom 1/4 of a garbage can and turned it upside down, and the burm coils up in that. But I've only seen him/her in it a couple of times, its usually coiled up in the corner just lookin out at the passerby.

Some snakes like blankets too...so one could try that. Although not a giant, but my friends BP won't use normal hides, but loves this towel that it moves around the cage. If it want to get warm, somehow the towel and the snake are on the warm side. If it wants to be cool, the snake and the towel are on the cool side. We call it his "blankie" and have never actually seen him move it.

lol! thats great. i remember that the petstore i got my bp from had no hide so he hid under the astroturf

For a big enough snake you could always use a big cardboard box, or your old rubbermaids ( modified to be dark inside ). Most giants i see dont have any hides at all tho.

Concrete mixing tub worked great for a hide and water tub. Purchased at home depot.
