Average weight for a 4 month male
Im new to owning a ball/royal python. But I'm not new to reptiles. And did as much research as could before purchasing.
I've had him in for about 10days now and I weighed him a few days ago and he was weighing 88grams? Would you say this was a good weight or a bad weight? He currently moved onto rat pups for the last 3 feeds ( 1 feed was with his old keeper). When I purchased him, his pervious owner kept a log of his feeds/sheds/weight on his date of birth he was weighing 71grams! Now it doesn't seem right, in 4 months he's only put on 17grams!

Also whilst doing some research on a rat pup and a rat pinky, are they the same thing? I bought rat pups from a pet store and they look a like a rat pinky...

    Thanks for any advice

That doesn't add up. 71 grams is normal weight for a hatchling. Did the seller give you a record of when he was fed?

And rat pinks are smaller than pups...

I've added a photo of what the previous owner kept. My first feed was on the 29.12.13 and got him on the 27.12.13

Yeah I know it doesn't add up, that's why I'm concerned. In 4months he's only piled up 17grams! I'll weigh him again Tuesday (literally just fed him).

Are those first feedings fuzzie rats or mice? A hatchling bp can start out on adult mice or rat pups, so fuzzy anythings are a bit small. As long as he's feeding good on rat pups now, he should start packing on the weight. After a couple months you should be able to move him up to weaned rats, and then smalls..

Unsure if they are fuzzie mice or rats. Just so I'm clear on a rat pup I've taken a photo. I'm just getting confused on all the different sellers showing different things. So could you confirm this is a rat pup.

    Thank you

They look like rat pups, but on the smaller side. Here's a few links to check out...one is a chart with age/weight/etc of feeders as well as a pic showing the different sizes...

Ok I've weighed a pup and it only weighs 8grams, according to that chart it should be 20 grams? Also on that other link it is showing a rat pup has fur? Do you think I've actually bought and feeding pinkys as on the chart it also shows rat pinks weigh a max of 8grams

Yeah...8 grams seems way small...and a rat pup should definitely have fur. Some rodent breeders will skimp on you and give you smaller prey than you ordered. Rodentpro has done this to me the last several orders I've placed with them. The "smalls" are either right at the minimum weight or under...unsat...

Yeah, those are pinkies. Rat fuzzies should be 10-19 grams. Rat pups 20-29 grams in most cases. Maybe they were feeding fuzzy mice. :/

Those look like rat fuzzies to me!!
I have both rat pups and fuzzies in my freezer, as well as mice weanlings. At 8 grams, those are definitely rat fuzzies, or smaller (I'd say).

At 4 months (so 2 months ago) my male BP was about 150-175g. Mind you, every snake is different. I have heard on another thread, from a breeder, that hatchlings can gain anywhere from 50-100g a month.
Are you able to get something with a known weight and test your scale to make sure it is accurate?

Feel free to post a photo of your little guy as well :)
