new bp not eating
Alright I'll start off by saying I have owned a bp for seven years, but after researching bp's online and finding this one the most helpful, I am surprised he is alive and healthy, although he is on his first hunger strike. Anyway the reason I was researching info on bp's is three weeks ago I've acquired three new babies, one a rescue and the other two from a reputable breeder. All three have the same setup in tubs, 15qt. hotspot 88, hides, uth thermostat. I have one that refuses to eat and has not eaten since i got him. I am getting a scale monday, but I know he came 86g. I have not handled any of them, the other two have eaten the past two weeks. My concern is how long can he go before I have to assist feed him? This is my first picky eater and is not fun cuz he is only 3 months. Any help is much appreciated.

Do you know what it was eating before you got it? Are you using the same type?

Re: new bp not eating
Im pretty sure It was live rat fuzzies or pups, which I am having a hard time finding in bakersfield. I might check petco or petsmart at their live selection maybe at least trying a live mouse around the size. I was hoping he would eat ft like his brother from the same breeder, can't win them all I guess.

How do you warm the prey?
What presentation have you tried? (zombie dance, dangle, leave in, etc)
Tell us everything you have tried so we can see if you missed a method.

Re: new bp not eating
I have grabbed the feeder by the nape of the neck, dangled it about an inch off the ground, and left one over night (ft) in front of his hide. If i dont find a live one im going to try to brain the ft. oh and I thaw out the mouse in warm water throughout the day and present it warm, i have not tried the hair dryer trick, or heat lamp I'm going to collect as much info from you guys before I attempt to feed him, i dont want to stress him any further.

Re: new bp not eating
What's your humidity at? Also some of my bp's need their hotspot in the low 90's, and their humidity needs to run at 60-70 percent or so or else they won't eat.

Re: new bp not eating
I have all thee new bps in the same setup, humidity is 75 right now and all their hotspots are 88-90. One is being difficult.

Humidity does not need to stay at 75. 40-50 is good with a boost for sheds.
I thaw in hot water. Once thawed I drain the water and get fresh hot water (as hot as I can get out of the tap). I let them get as warm as possible then I feed trouble feeders first. That way the see the prey with the warmest heat signature as possible.
I dangle from the tail. The tail being held by the tongs adds distance and the snake will zero in on the prey. I have the best luck doing it that way.

Have you tried mice? Perhaps offer a smaller meal. I did this to my newly acquired baby BP and he slammed two FT mice hoppers. I dethawed in water and then dried it with a hair dryer. Took it in 3 seconds.
