Question about changing bedding for my ball
So I use eco earth cocoanut fiber for bedding and often my ball will get a mouthfull of it when feeding and it just doesn't seem to keep humidity very well (i live in a desert state also) and i want to change the bedding up and i was wondering if anyone had suggestions about maybe a type of mulch or something that is a little bit bigger than the eco earth and hold humidity better.
Re: Question about changing bedding for my ball
I have ball python and have had one for almost a year and I have been using aspen and I think its great. It is cheap and i have mine in a 75 gallon tank with a sort of mesh wire lid so obviously it is very hard to hold in humidity but aspen does a fine job. You should give it a shot
Re: Question about changing bedding for my ball
Eco earth is better at retaining humidity than aspen.
And Cypress mulch is good at retaining humidity as well.
What is your set up like? Are you using a screen top tank?

Re: Question about changing bedding for my ball
I have a wire top glass 15 gallon terrarium, he is only about seven months maybe so he is not very big, i have a UTH connected to a spyder herpstat 2 with two hide huts, i also have about half of the top wire mesh covered with clear vinyl to keep humidity up and i spray maybe once or twice a day but it just does not seem to stay, i also have a top hood with a full spectrum bulb for day (50 watt) and a black moonlight bulb (50 watt) for night, with my herpstat i have temps set to ~85 during the day and ~72-75 at night. I'm just kinda worried because he has been kind just hiding in his hide hut the last few weeks and not coming out as often, only to eat and I amthinking humidity might be an issue.
Re: Question about changing bedding for my ball
with a zilla dial humidity meter, im going to switch to a humidity probe for my herpstat once i have the money. but usually he is out and moving around but for the last week and a half i haven't seen him do anything but poke his head out of his hide.
