How should i start out?

I'm only 13 but I am really into reptiles and have been for a very long time. I would like to start breeding, nothing major right now but my dad is gonna be building me a shed or building or garage, something like that so i can start breeding some reptiles. With space being an obvious problem I can only get about 15-25 reptiles. Does anyone know some morphs i could get for cheap but when bred together the outcome would make me a decent profit. I would like to breed any type of python and any type of boa.

When it comes into breeding, a lot of people think that they'll be making a lot of money, but it's not true. You'll be spending money on racks, an incubator, food. And then you have to be ready to look after hatchlings that might not sell, and have money for any illnesses that need vet care.

If you really want to breed, you need to decide between pythons or boas. There's quite a difference.

I suggest making sure whatever structure you use is climate controlled. As a 13 year old, your best investment will be your time. Worry less about profit and hang onto your passion for reptiles. There are plenty of groovy python and boa species that stay small for the breeder on a space budget. Rosy boas, sand boas, children's pythons, ball pythons, angolan pythons and candoia(lots of cool choices here) to name a few of your smaller species options.

Honestly, I would suggest getting whatever you consider to be a cool snake that fits in with what you can handle.
So, a Green Anaconda is out.
But, something you just plain enjoy and can keep a passion for these animals going is probably going to serve you better than trying to make a quick buck.
If you are insistent on making a profit then you have to look at what you can afford and get the best quality animals you can for your money.

The largest snake I would probably say you should get would be a BCI. I would never recommend you getting a retic, burmese, rock, green/yellow annie.

Focus on just this being a hobby for you for now, at 13 you're going to have limited help and time to take care of animals plus you shouldn't jump into something for the money. I've bred boas before and the market for them has gone down in recent years so I don't even deal with boas anymore, not because of the market but because of the more common breeding problems with boas versus pythons. It's because of live bearers vs laying eggs, different complications. Boas get larger, so require larger food which is more in the long run, but ball pythons have nit picky feeders at times.

when you start out, dont expect profits. even if you make some money with some hatchlings, you will have invested more in the BPs, incubator, hatchling rack, and everything that comes with it.

so you should be in it with your heart.

also, i think its the wrong question to ask which morph to choose in order to make money. when you have experience in getting snakes to breed and have some nice proven females ready to go, then it makes sense to spend a really large amount of money for some fancy new gene and to try to produce fast enough to keep up with falling prices. so you should ask which morphs will produce the most beautiful stuff you can afford, and thats quite a personal question. maybe something like albinos or BELs or piebalds or different codominants, and the base morphs you will need later on. the genes that have come down in price but that dont go out of fashion simply because they work really well. pastel, black pastel, fire, mojave, pinstripe, spider, enchi, ..... to really make use of some extremely expensive BP, you need to have some of the basics covered and have a breeding operation running first.

so choose genes and BPs that you visually like and that can produce combinations that you like, and that are good sellers, and go for the really expensive genes later on.

that is, if you decide to go for BPs, i see you have not yet decided what species to choose for breeding. for example corn snakes are a bit easier to breed and they produce more eggs and reach maturity faster, and you can get multi-gene morph combinations really cheaply. im not saying anything against ball pythons, just want to point out, there are many options besides BPs. anyway, i wish you the best of luck :)

I am 12 and I am starting out BP breeding, I am in RSA so things are a bit more expensive. I will probably only start with 3-4 BPs then whatever profit I make I will invest in getting new snakes. The main reason why I want to breed is because I love the whole genetics side and BPs are super awesome!

Start small and build your collection up, maybe invest in a couple normal females and get the best morph male you can afford, keep some morph females back, do the same for the 2nd year and in your 3rd year of breeding you will have morph females and whatever profit you make along the way use to expand.

Super genes will guarantee no normals. You'll spend more at start but it will create more potential profit.
