BP Curious???

I've only had my BP about 2 weeks now and after the first week and the first meal, I started handling him. Since I've started handling him I've noticed that he always come sticks his head out of his hide and kinda looks around for a few minutes then goes back inside his hide. If I walk by his tank and bumb it or open it up to put more water in there or something he sticks his head out and looks around and watch me then goes back inside his hide. Is he looking for food or is he just curious of what's going on around him???

Well each Ball Python has its own personalities.
For example my female ball Obitus, tries to nip at me everytime I reach into her enclosure.
Unlike my other female ball, Morgan ... which never striked, or tried to nip me! :)

That's cool your bp does that, mine usually just stays really still when ever I take the cover off. Sometimes he recoils, so I usually don't handle him too long if he is in that mood. Even when he does recoil he still sometimes likes to enjoy being out of the habitat.

Could be he's keeping an eye on who's in his house or he's curious or he's hungry, who knows what they're thinking really. Our male is very active at night and will stick his head out when we go in his house for anything....Sophie on the other hand rarely comes out, only to feed these days, but she is very docile when I handle her and neither have ever been aggressive. They do all seem to have a different 'personality' so to speak.

nellie sticks her head out at me all the time too. most of the time she is in her hide with her head either sticking out or just inside so she can poke it out at a moment's notice to see what i'm doing. even in the middle of the day if i go in when i think she is sleeping she will usually check me out. i think she is mostly curious because when she's expecting food her tongue is flicking a million times a minute and this is more of a casual thing.

It seems like mine stick their ehads out when they're hunrgy. See, in the wild, they crawl into rodent dens while the rodent is away, and lie in wait for the rodent to come home, then they can just snap the rat up.
Usually, my full Bps stay coiled tightly in their hides, while my hungry ones keep their head out watchfully. But if they do this every day, it does not mean they just get fed! I have to fight the urge to overfeed sometimes, as I am sure we all do. But it just seems to me that mine stick their heads out more near feeding day than any other time.

hmm i wonder if nellie does it more when it is close to feeding time...i'll have to watch for that. but that little bugger isn't gonna get fed every day just for poking that cute head out at me!

That's exactly what Junior does. I fed him last night, and this morning I walked up to check the humidity and he poked his head out until after I walked off the I looked back and he went back into his hide. I seems like he does it all the time whether I just feed him or not.
