    Hide size
This may sound like a stupid question/comment but I was wondering about the appropriate sized hide for my ball python. I know the rule of thumb being a hide they can fit into and touch all sides. I was wondering about after they eat. My girl Roxy just are today and she went in ur hide and lifted it up off the ground and moved and adjusted to what I assume was in order to fit. I left her to digest and when I came back the entire hide was moved (her still under it) but it was at an angle now (it was a significant move). So I wonder is the hide too small or is that ok/normal for when they eat. Also usually I have a branch on it but I always take it off for feeding in case she does need to lift the hide up. Although do they prefer some weight on the hide like a real rock would be unable to be moved? I'm not sure So that's all let me know what you think :)

I would say go a size up, thats if you think its too small. I personally dont use hides except for the babies. If she is fitting in there nicely when she's not eating then it sounds like the right size.

Check out reptile basics hides. They have a decent description for each size with measurements so you can make the right decision on the hide. They might not look appealing but my snakes love them.

If she still fits snuggly in there I would keep it, but go out and buy some bigger ones once she's completely outgrown it. I knew my cool side hide got too small when Eva would just sit on top of it because she was too big to fit inside. But if yours can still fit in it and likes to go inside I'd just keep them. But it would help even more to get a pic of how raised up or how the move is when she's underneath it's hard to visualize it accurately in my head. :)

If you get a larger hide and think it's too big, put some balls of crumpled-up newspaper in it to take up some of the space. I've done this with a few and find that many times the BP's will push the paper over to block the opening and really feel secure.

You want something that is snug. They should have to ball up and be a bit squished inside. I use upside-down flower pots with a doorway cut out.

And her and her hide she doesn't use, because you know what, she's a snake and she does as she pleases -_-

Its very hard to capture this in a photo due to the angle but to attempt to explain, when first going in and adjusting she lifts it about an inch. left alone its raised about half an inch. Movement wise i woke up and the hide that was backed in the corner was now still there but facing totally backwards (so opening facing the wall vs. the front) :P she does fit regularly quite snuggly so thats why i thought to keep them. i already have two identical one size up hides ready to go for when she out grows them. speaking of actually, i currently have two hides a hot and cold, however i know a lot of people have the whole "rack" system. So i was wondering, do they really need two hides or does one suffice?

Well if yours are in a rack system then I would only have a hot side hide so just one. I have 2 tanks and a rack system on the way for hatchlings an I'm only getting one hide for each tub :) and yeah if she still fits snuggly I'd just leave then in there until she can't fit anymore haha. Eva does the same thing after a big meal, the hide sometimes is raised up if she lays funny. But if she likes it keep it :D and nice on the back ups, I need to go get some because I think Eva is gunna need some in the near future :)
