    Traveling with frozen rodents?
I highly doubt this is worth it, but I have maybe ~20 rats left that I bought from rodent pro, and I'm about to move from South Carolina to Washington in 10 days, and I'm considering buying some dry ice and sticking them in a really good cooler for the trip, restocking the ice as I go. I guess the question is... would it cost more than what the rats are worth to make it 6 days in a cooler? I don't know if anyone has had experience with this or not.

My main plan is to put them up on craigslist for cheap. This is definitely the worst part of being in the military... I only found out 2 days ago where and when I was going. Better yet, I'll be out to sea for 3+ months right after I show up! Good thing my wife likes the BP's ;)

If it were me I think I would put them on craigslist to avoid having to deal with them on the road. Your going to have enough to worry about other than finding dry ice. Just my 2 cents

I think you're right. Just having the snakes, and a black lab, will be enough added stress!

Personally....I wouldn't think it is worth it. Where in Washington?

I'll be up in Bangor, WA. Technically Silverdale area, but the base is Bangor.

I would think the cost of dry ice would be more than the cost of the frozen feeders. That said, if the trip is taking six days, are you driving and stopping overnight at hotels? Because most have ice makers so you could restock the cooler with regular ice every night and morning and not have to pay for the ice, and a good cooler will hold temperature for 12 hours.

Well you can, but the problem you will run into is that dry ice is about $10 a pound, and I'm not sure how much you would need to last three days, maybe 2-3 pounds. Then you would have to insulate the box to get maximum cooling. It could be done but if it doesn't work then you're out that money plus the money you paid for the rodents. Dry ice can typically last three days if all the conditions are met.

If it were me, I'd probably just sell them on craigslist for half of what you paid to move them quick and that way it's still cheaper than buying dry ice and at least you profit in a way.
