no new rainbow boas for me

:( I recently was offered two rainbow boas for free, a male and female pair. After some debate with my teenage son, finally decided to turn down the offer. Could not afford the time and attention these two would need. For starters, would need separate enclosure for the female, two uths, and two extra heat sources. Vet and feeding costs, not to mention utilities would increase. Already have one cat, one rat, two parakeets, two turtles, two goldfish and two snakes, so where would we put the new arrivals? Our apartment complex is already unhappy with the two snakes we do have. Aaagh. Still trying to rationalize turning down the offer though....

BRB need constant high humidity and somewhat low temps compared to many. If you can maintain that they are simple snakes. My male is 6 ft and very inquisitive. When I watch TV in my snake room he will stick his head out of his hide and rest on top of it watching TV too. He is funny, super friendly, and super strong. He is the only one that will actually choke me while hanging out with me.

I really like his small compact dropping too. They are much better than my baby elephant blood pythons!

Why were they free?

Wow! That must have been hard to turn down. I also was given a free adult male and an adult female Brazilian rainbow boa. The owner had to rehome them quickly as she had to move with just a few days notice (domestic situation) and couldn't bring them with her. I've told her several times that when she gets back on her feet I'll return them, but she insists they are mine.

They are beautiful animals, easy to keep if set up in the correct enclosure, and a joy to handle. I would have a hard time turning another one away if it were offered.

Dude, tell them I'll take one if they want to drive down here... I only live an hour 1/2 away from you..

Sucks when you have to turn down such a great offer, but sometimes it's just not the right time :(

Not really sure why they were free. Seemed like they didn't know how to take care of them properly and/or not enough money to feed and house them. I was afraid to ask. I'm still upset at having to turn them down. Mostly money issues on my end, too.

I was able to find them a home together in this area. It turned out it was a husbandry case (not enough heat and humidity, not eating for three weeks, etc.) So was glad someone could take them that knew what they were doing.
