    Can You Believe This
So It's about that time that the first semester is ending and that is when leases get signed. I found a nice spacious 2 person apartment downtown and I went with my roommate to fill out apps and take a peep at the lease. I came across an intense "NO PETS WHAT SO EVER" part so of course I asked if caged pets were okay and they asked what I had, where my answer was "2 snakes"

Apparently they had an instance a few years back where a tenant had a few snakes and let them loose in the apartment and left because he didnt want to take them with him, so the landlords had to search and capture the snakes.

What kind of person would abandon snakes like that, and now i am nervously awaiting a phone call that will tell me if it gets approved or not. This one instance could make it so I cant live there and I have no other places in mind after about a month of searching :tears: :rage:

People always manage to surprise me, I just hate it when it's in the bad way (refering to the previous tenant you mentioned, not you!).

I hope they call with good news, and thank you for being honest and up front with them on the issue. I hate seeing threads pop up where someone has a lease that clearly says no pets, they move in anyway, and then get all upset when they get caught.

I hope everything works out in your favor. I hate the previous tenants did that. It's always someone that does something stupid that mess things up for the good.

:/ Not cool. They couldn't have worked out something in respects to a clause in the contract?! I'm really sorry. :/

    Wow...
Some people just ruin it for the rest.
Personally I didn't even tell my supers about my snakes ;) but then again, I'm in a whole different country so the laws here are undoubtedly different - discrimination act allows pets in Ontario.

As someone who went through the whole leasing process several times over the past couple of years, and finally settling in an apartment with my partner, I would strongly advise a well-written advertisement on a leasing website!
You don't necessarily have to say what kind of pets you have (as this unfortunately does open you up for people to discriminate against you/them) but just include that you do have 2 small/quiet pets in your ad, and hopefully that will thin out the herd to an appropriate point for you to begin looking.

    Best of luck to you!

The ignorance in the world today never seems to amaze or surprise me. Keep in mind I work in a jail for a living.

Keep being honest with landlords and keep emphasizing how much the animals mean to you and run them through that you have everything locked up tight and properly cared for. You will have to kind of "get on their side" with a intitial disclaimer which is "i know you may have had bad experiences with reptiles in the past but........" or " i know you have some preconception of reptiles but mine are........" you just have to sell it to them.

I got rather lucky, but right upfront i fully disclosed that we own well over 100 animals and 30+ are snakes. I informed them of our near hospital like cleanliness and professionalism. I told them how much our animals were worth and how i would be an idiot to allow anything to escape just purely for monetary reasons. I paid a pet deposit for them and we were good to go.
