Got my first corn snake today.

I got my first corn snake today and I got him a pinky to. When I was feeding him, he saw the pinky and sniffed hum a few times and then just started eating him alive without constricting first. The pinky was waiving it's limbs. I'm new to corn snakes but I read that they are constrictor's.

HUM...Im only taking a guess at this, but Im wandering if he is use to eating F/T? I only feed Live so all of mine Strike and Constrict. Do you know how he was fed prior to you getting him?

Baby corn snakes almost never constrict their prey. I have a baby corn. Although I only feed him frozen I do wave the pinky around a bit and all he does is bit it and shallow. As they get older you should see a change and they will start constricting more.

Could he get injured from the live prey kicking from within?

I think the pinky suffocated at least an hour ago ;) I don't think a pinky can do much damage once its swallowed, it's before and during.

I doubt it. He should have no problems. If he does you would have found it by now. I would just leave him alone for the week since you just got him.

Some hatchlings constrict and some do not. My little Gremlin started constricted when I first go him at 10 grams, but it took Rose Red till she was 60 grams to start attempting to constrict (emphasis on the word "attempt" since she resembled a fish out of water rather than a snake constricting. Due to her doing it backwards, quite the sight to see lol).

The pinky won't hurt it, don't worry.

I really would offer f/t to your little snake. Now is the best time to get him used to it, plus imagine how terrible a death that pinky has suffered. You can hear them squeaking inside the snake as they're suffocated and getting burned by stomach acids. Unless they absolutely won't take anything but live, f/t is best.

My adult corn still doesn't constrict, I made the switch to F/T and he doesn't even strike he won't go near the mouse unless I lay it down next to him, then he moves next to it and slowly starts eating, its actually funny to watch.

Riddle will only constrict stuff that has fur.
Pinkies are swallowed w/o constricting, everything else is constricted for a very long time!

Last time I fed him, I gave him a rat pink because mouse hopper seem to be short supply over over...
I thought for sure he'd constrict, since I've never seen him not constrict since I got him on fuzzies, but he just began swallowing it immediately!

I guess they know the difference and don't bother wasting energy constricting something that doesn't need to be :)
