    Hi all,

I'm getting back into the hobby after an 8 year absence. I recently picked up a hatchling for a great price and would like to build him a home.

I know all of the dangers of Cedar, and have read that your should not use pine. I was planning on using standard plywood and 1X2 framing for the cage, I assume it will be pine. As long as I polyurethane it will there be a problem?

    Thanks for the help!!! :D

A few good coats of polycrylic or polyurethane will do the trick for you.

    Welcome to the site too!!!

Yeah minimum of 3 coats of polyurethane paint does the trick, what i did to my cage was i layered with another piece of laminate sheet. A malimine sheet to be precise. Its more water resistant.

Anyway check out this website, its a great source for cage building. Under Cages etc

Actually, I just saw the post about the sterilite enclosures.... I think I may give that a try, for that price why not.

How do you secure the top on a sterilite enclosure?

    Smulkin
Bungee, belting straps - usually anything that goes all the way around the enclosure to latch or if you are using them in conjunction with a rack system you can design the rack space such that the tupperware fits in perfectly without the top and doesnt allow room for escapes.
