switch-a-roo

this is the second time feeding the snakes f/t mice. and this is the second time roo took her prey butt first. she has only done this the one other time we fed her f/t last week. before that she never ate butt first.
roswell always ate his prey butt first until we gave him f/t he ate it head first for the first time. and again tonight he ate his head first and the mouse was f/t. is there something wrong here? they totaly switched eating habbits.

My male Gunther always, always takes his prey feet first. This is OK now, since he is just eating small rats, but I have read that it can be bad if they're eating larger adult rats because of the claws and the legs are obviously longer and pointed in the wrong direction, thus making swallowing harder. It's also possible that the eat's claws could scratch the snake's insides while swallowing backward, since it's so "against the grain". I plan on feeding Gunth in a new way from now on; by arranging things in the cage so that he cannot eat it buttfirst; maybe I'll cover the rear end with newspaper or something so he HAS to eat it headfirst.
Aren't they just little brats sometimes? :)

Gin, since you're feeding dead, you could also give it a pedicure first. ;)

Jojo used to do that when he was younger but i guess after a few feedings they get it right.
