This is my 1st year breeding n ive seen people talking about removing the heat sourc undee tub and just go with the amb temp .. who has tried this and has better lock results with this methood ?

Sounds like a very bad idea unless you can be certain what stage the female is at and what ambient temps she needs at every step.

I don't lower my temps at all, ever, and they lock up just fine for me.

A few years ago I started filling my female's water bowls with ice water. I don't remember why (stimulates them to build follicles?) and not sure if it helps any. That's the only change I make during breeding season and I usually do pretty well getting locks and fertile eggs.

I don't change temps at all during the season. My snake room naturally cools a little, but other than that I don't touch temps. I get a good number of locks, nice fertile eggs and "knock on wood" few slugs. I think the risk of RI would make cutting off the heat all together very risky.

I do change my temps a little during breeding season. I lower the hot spot by about 8-10°, and the ambient temps are lowered just a tiny bit. I do this slowly and gradually over the period of 4 weeks. Ive never had one of my snakes get an RI. I follow the advice of another breeder, whereas a cooler temp stimulates the female to produce follicles, and increases the fertility of the male's sperm. Last year, we did it my husband's way, and did not cool down any of our animals. ....not a single egg was laid :(. This year, we're doing it my way....and so far weve had tons o locks and a female ovulate already...;)
