Better yet, if it's illegal, do not do it. I think Omaha is one of the few areas to have an outright ban on large constrictors.

And if they ban all exotics? Do you plan to voluntarily have all of your animals euthanized or confiscated or are you going to keep them but keep them hush hush?

The guy was harming no one but he had a spiteful ex who decided to get back at him. Try not to get involved with crazy people, least of all romantically.

It's not about "getting involved with crazy people", because people aren't usually like that when we first get with them (or else we wouldn't be with them, probably).
I feel that the person did the right thing by accepting the consequences, even if it really sucks that his pets were taken away. For myself, there would be two options:
1) Hide my pets!
2) Move somewhere where they are legal to own.

Right now I'm sort of hiding mine... from my landlords. Hehe. But then again, I can't be kicked out for having any type of pet (in Ontario).

I'd invite you to google some of the amazing surveys/studies that have been done with abused women after a divorce/breakup. They always end up reporting something that is off with the guy within the first two or three dates. There is also vast amounts of research being done on humans instincts in being able to predict peoples overall personality from literally listening to a 1-2 second blurp of a person talking. We are highly evolved organisms which have come to dominate the planet for a reason, alot of that is because of our ability to use very little information to come to correct conclusions. Of course, there are also plenty of reasons as to why we dont listen to our instincts about people but that is best cracked open with a good therapist instead of a forum.

If he had the animal prior to the state legislation then he could have easily had the animal put on the grandfather list. To answer your question, I will not lie, if there was an outright ban in my state and they were some how not allowing a grandfather list (I remember hearing from a vet tech that is illegal), then yes my animals would be put behind a closed door. I in no way support the legislation, our tax dollars have more important things to do than ban snakes that kill less people per year than vending machines; however, I do not support anyone that openly violates a law that would likely allow him to keep the animal should he accept a grandfather list...if such a system was not in place then I will admit my Jeffersonian heart is forged in rebellion and will be enraged while my mind tempered in democracy will be deeply saddened.

You don't need to invite me, I have taken psychology courses for years, and I have personal first-hand (family) experience with abusive relationships, as well as volunteering at a non-profit org that deals with this as well. Problems with abuse are often a cycle for an individual, and can start early on in life. We are evolved, yes, but a lot of that is subconcious thinking. And I totally agree with your last statement.

For the "general" public, and the statement beforehand about "dealing with crazy people", I am thinking more of when someone has their heart broken - figuratively of course - in a relationship, they tend to act in ways not of themselves, and thus typically, heterosexual women because "crazy b*tches" and heterosexual men become "doughbags/as*holes/etc.". I believe anyone who has been through this can attest to this as well ;)
