Insurance for my ball pythons
I have over 70 ball pythons in my collection and I just talked to my insurance company about a car claim and he said they are not covered by homeowners insurance and will need to be insured by a specialty company
I have about $20,000.00 worth of animals and about $10,000.00 worth of caging so I was wondering if anyone out there has insurance on their collection and what company offers it .
Lets face it if my house burned to the ground id be at a huge loss
Any input would be helpful
Re: Insurance for my ball pythons
You might be better off trying to get business insurance and turning your collection into an LLC.

Keep searching for a specialty insurance company. You can insure almost anything. In the meantime I'll ask my brother who is an insurance actuary and get back to you.
Re: Insurance for my ball pythons
So my brother(the insurance actuary) tells me that yes it would have to be insured by a specialty insurance company. And that you would likely have to have your snakes/cages appraised to figure out a ball park estimate of what it would take to go out and repurchase all of your snakes at their current morph combos and sizes to assess their true value. The same goes for purchasing all of your caging systems. These values added together would be the dollar amount of insurance the policy would cover. The snakes would also have to be reappraised every 6 months because their value is constantly changing. Like others have said, it would be much simpler for you to become a small business and get something like insurance in your product/wares to be sold. Something like 50,000$ worth of coverage to ensure the ability to replace EVERYTHING in case of a catastrophic event. I would definitely talk to some independent pet shop owners and see what type of coverage they have. Hope this helped you.
