Junior's first meal!!

Today Junior ate for me for the first time. What a relief!! I was worried all week that he wouldn't eat today. I got him a live fuzzy (I know, I know, not good), and dropped it in there and it walked around for about 15-20 seconds and as soon as he walked by Junior's warm hide, it was over. I didn't realize how fast BP's can be. I was watching and in a blink of an eye he reached out of his hide and had it wrapped up. Next feeding I'm gonna try f/t, and keep pushing that idea. I had great restaint keeping from handling him the past week. So, now a couple more days of waiting for digestion then some bonding time. One question, how many of you guys feed in the same place as their kept in and anybody had any problems with being bitten for mistaken for food????? I fed him in the same place mainly cause I didn't want to stress him any moving to somewhere else for the first feed. I have reptile carpet for substate. Thanks guys, this board is awesome. Tons of info!!!

I feed my bp's in their cages, but i take all the stuff out ( hides, vines, waterbowl, etc ... ) . It allows me a good opportunity to clean everything.

I take him out during feeding for two reasons : one being the whole association with food everytime you open the cage door and second becuase i keep him on eco earth and i dont want him to ingest any of that. What kind of substrate do you use ??

Congrats! :) It's a live meal, but it's a meal nonetheless. Good to hear you're adamant on getting him on f/t. :D

I never understood the whole associating your hand with feeding time thing. It'd only happen if that's all you go in the cage for. Then the snake would most likely remember that everytime your hand goes in the tank, it's feeding time. But I'd think you'd go in there more than once a week for feeding. You'd have to check on things, spot clean, change water, check temps, and go in for handling. So why would they only associate a hand in the cage with feeding time if you're going in there for the other stuff too? As long as I have a safe/digestable substrate, I'll feed in the cage. Just my opinion. :)
