    Always dilated eye

It was tough to get these pictures as I don't have anything that's able to get clear close ups. I've noticed that his left eye is always dilated and the right one seems normal. I'm pretty sure its been this way since I got him in august. Even in different lighting and with a flashlight it stays dilated. Any thoughts?

That is odd. Maybe the sight in that eye is bad? You'll probably never know because their eyes aren't terribly important for them.

Possibly. It doesn't seem to affect his eating or anything, he's a garbage disposal as always. I'm thinking just a quick look over with a vet wouldn't hurt though

Strange. I'm not sure why the eye is like that.
Please keep us updated if the vet has an answer.

It is called anisocoria, or uneven pupils. It can be caused by various things and may be neurologic, genetic, viral, etc.

-neurologic problems such as inflammatory processes, trauma(hitting the head hard on something), viral infections and tumors of the brain or nerves associated with the eyes and other causes.
-pressure problems within the eye due to a developmental anomaly, permanent injury or others
    -genetic issue

All in all....1) don't breed it in the event this is a genetic issue and 2)take them to the vet

Thanks! I'm never planning to breed him so no worry there. I just called a vet and I'll probably be seeing one next week, if not then the week after due to thanksgiving (not sure if vet clinics are closed on holidays). Thanks for the information!

Update: took him too the vet today. She was baffled that there was no swelling, signs of trauma, and his eyes are clear and perfect (aside from the dilation). She only could guess he was born with it or he had trauma or an issue earlier in his life. She confirmed he can see out of that eye fine.

She recommended an optometrist if I really wanted to find out why this is happening but that it's not necessary as he is completely healthy otherwise.

Someday I may take him to find out but at this moment I don't feel its needed just yet. I'll let you guys know if she finds out anything more. She was going to ask some other vets (supposedly).

    Happy Monday!

Updated pictures of his eyes with a better camera. Easier to see the eye differences here
