Thinking about getting a boa.

So I am thinking about getting a Brazilian rainbow boa. I was planning on getting either baby or sub adult. I have an exo Terra large low cage (36x18x12) and was wondering if that would be enough space for its entire life? And also, does anyone know how three exo Terra cages hold humidity?

The 36"x18" footprint should be fine for a male, my female is just over 6' and thick so it would be a little tight for her while my adult male is slightly smaller and thinner.

Can't help with the humidity question, I would set it up, cover the top, and see how well it works.

My advice is don't think just do!!! They get about 7ft as females so if you get a male it should last its whole life!!!

They used to be in 40-breeders, which are 36"x18", and did just fine. The adults didn't show a tendency to climb like the babies do, except for the one time my female escaped...

Currently they are in a Monster 96"x30" that is divided so each gets 48"x30", and while it's way oversized for them it's the best enclosure I've got for maintaining the high humidity they need.

36 inches seems small to me guys...I don't own a boa, but my corn snake is in a 3x2x2 enclousure, and my childrens python will get an identical sized one when he is an adult and they only get 3ft. Now I do like to give my animals as much space as I can.

I have to agree that a 36x18x12 seems too small for a BRB. I don't own any rainbow boas and I know they are smaller than Colombians, but they aren't that much smaller. And being semi-arboreal, they are pretty active. That size might be ok for a juvenile, but I wouldn't keep an adult in anything less than a 4x2x1 or a 3x2x2 (that's feet, not inches).

Also, an Exo-Terra is going to have a screen top. The humidity won't be adequate for a BRB unless you close off that screen (and you still need to consider ventilation). There is a reason why most BRB keepers use tubs or pvc enclosures...........

Maybe BRB's aren't for me just yet. Maybe I'll just get another morph of ball python.

Once you get a boa, you'll never go back. And providing a proper enclosure isn't hard. That Exo-Terra should do fine for quite a long time if you get a baby. Personally, I'd go for it. Just don't use a heat lamp - with that screen, you'll suck whatever humidity you might have had right out of there. If you decide to go ahead with it, let us know. There are lots of things you can do to make it work well. :gj:

i keep my baby columbian rainbow boa in a 12x12x18 exo terra and even with the screen top my humidity stays around 90% half of the screen is covered with the exo terra light. the columbian rainbow boas stay a tad bit smaller then the brazillian rainbow boas and there a little more forgiving then the brazilians with their husbandry requirments
