Strange baby BP behavior

Whenever I feed my bp she will strike at the prey but not bite and constrict.
Because she is a new snake I assumed it was out of fear but she would never strike at me plus she would go after the prey. She didn't seem afraid.
I decided to leave the f/t mouse in her enclosure after she struck at it and when I came back later it was gone.
She has done this twice now.
Anyone have any insight on this behavior?

Sometimes they like to be left alone when they're eating.

She is striking as defensive behaviour as the mouse may be to big. When you leave her alone she will relise its fine and eat it. I had the same problem with my pied spider male and I just put the mouse in her enclosure and she released it was fine and ate it, eventually she released there was nothin to b scared of and just ate it normally. If you put it in her enclosure though, remember to take her out, maybe to another room, put it in, and then put her in cause otherwise next time u hold her she will expect food coming in so she may strike

You don't need to do that. She's fine feeding in her normal enclosure.

Ya ur probs rite but with my particular snake, i gave her the mouse in her enclousure and for weeks she wld strike whenever I went to hold her

I feed in my enclosure, everyone feeds differently. No right and wrong way, whatever you finds works for you. My pastel will sometimes strike and sometimes expect it left for her in the door to her hide and she is around 4 months. If leaving it is working that's great!

We had to put the f/t mouse in front of ours, then cover the enclosure and leave him alone for awhile at first. That got him to eat the first couple of feedings. Now he'll take it readily.

I have a baby about 6 weeks old and when I ever I throw a live feeder in there and he knows I'm around,he will sit there frozen and pay no mind,so I have to walk away,get out of his vision and then it still takes himr 10-15 mins to strike...he's a weird eater,but never turns down a meal. So I'm sure he is just shy,like my guy seems to be. Yet my other one,don't care,he eats and strikes immediately ..they have diff personalities

i also feed I'm the enclosure always..no need to feed in a separate tub,just not necessary.

I agree that she seems to be striking out of fear but she will hunt the prey when offered, strike at it and then recess into her hide.

I just hope she grows up to be more like a constrictor and not a pseudo-venomous snake. :P
