    Ultratherm Heat Pad
So I got my very first Ball Python today. He is about a year old and around 20" long. The enclosure he came with is pretty sad (a 10 gallon aquarium) so I am planning on upgrading that tomorrow. I have been reading that under the tank heaters are ideal with BPs. I shopped around a bit and most of them are vastly move expensive than I am capable of spending right now. I did however find Ultratherm Heat Pads. I was wondering for an aquarium enclosure would this be an acceptable option?

Ultratherms are great, in fact they are some of the best available. As with all UTH's they must be regulated by a thermostat, and monitored with a probed thermometer.

Here are some good thermostats, stay away from the junk sold in pet stores:

    Budget: http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-MTPR.../dp/B000NZZG3S

    Mid-range: http://www.reptilebasics.com/thermos...stat-prewired/

    Best: http://www.spyderrobotics.com/home/products.html

And here is a good probed thermometer: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acu-Rite-I...ndingMethod=rr

While I'm at it here are 2 threads I suggest you read through:

    BP care: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ius)-Caresheet

BP cage setup (step by step): http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...With-Pictures!

On a side note what UTH's were you looking at? Most are relatively inexpensive ($15-$30)

Thanks I have seen those two threads already. I will purchase it soon.

And to explain, anything over 30 is expensive for me. My husband and I just bought our first house and money is always a bit tight!

FYI, you picked the wrong pet.................... you WILL want more, you WILL get more and soon not need so much at the grocery store so you can get another ball :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

They are easy to keep on the cheap though. Just get a good thermostat and walmart has almost everything else. ;)
