Weaning Mothers

1. Is it unwise to put weaning mothers together in the same enclosure with their respective young? Should they always be alone with their young for the 4-ish week period?

2. I have a mother who had 16 babies on Saturday. One was smaller than the others. On Sunday evening it was gone and we haven't seen it since. Would a mother eat one of her own babies if it is smaller or weaker than the rest?

Yes a mother will eat a baby ( ies) for a number of reasons.
I had a hamster once that ate her entire litter, I was 8, I learned real fast it can and does happen.

yes they will absolutely eat a small or sick baby. if the mothers were together when they had the litters they should be ok. but if they were separated first I would wait till after they wean the babies to put them together.
