    Necrotic tail (tegu)
My tegu was having issues with some shed (not sure if it really was) on the end of his tail. I watched it, hoping with some extra soaking/humidity it would resolve itself. Today I noticed it was turning black and it had gone up his tail a little more. I tried to clean some of it, a good amount of dirt/mulch came off but there was still dead tissue. I took him to the vet where they were able to pull the necrotic tissue off without having to do any surgery. I think he lost about 1.5-2 inches off his tail. The dead tissue kind of came at an angle, in one of the pictures, and since the "live" area still had good circulation and new tissue the vet decided to leave it instead of chopping it to see if it would heal on its own. My 'gu got his tail wrapped and we got some baytril. Wednesday he goes back to have his tail looked at again.
He was a very good boy at the vet! He's always been a super mellow lizard but I was especially impressed when the vet said my tegu sat still while he removed the skin. I can't say I would sit very still :P He also doesn't seem to mind me putting the baytril in his mouth, I honestly wasn't sure how that was going to work lol I planned on injecting his mice/rats with it.
Here are some pics, I feel really bad that this happened. I always try to take the best care possible but from what I hear, sometimes it can "just happen".

    What a good boy.
He looks very relaxed at the vet. :)

Glad his tail will be OK.

Went back to the vet today. They wanna give it another week of being bandaged and some antibiotics. Hopefully he won't have to have it wrapped anymore. He's been doing great, still eating like a champ. It doesn't seem to phase him. It's nice to hear how well behaved he is LOL :D he doesn't squirm or anything when they go poking and prodding. Now hes back in his enclosure working on his tan.
