hidding?

Hello, I have recently purchased a pastel ball python. he is my first snake, and I have a few questions? One is it normal for him to spend most of the day and night in the hid? he is almost always curled up in the same spot. also how often should I feed him? once or twice a week? and the last thing does the humidity in his tank matter. it is at around 50% currently. any advise on making this snakes life the best it could be would be greatly appreciated! thank you

Welcome to the forum and the life of BP's. We have a little saying here "a hiding ball python is a happy ball python"! They are nocturnal animals and come out at night, sometimes for such short periods we don't see them at all!

Feeding would depend on age of the snake, my cb13 200g (around 4 months) and my cb12 700g are offered food on a weekly basis.

Humidity at 50% sounds fine. Remember to up it when the snake goes into shed! :)

Oh, also... Leave you BP completely alone for at least the first week only changing his/her water during this time. Some people say not to handle until you have had 2 consecutive feeds (or more) but it tends to be a minimum of one week which is most suggested!

Yep a hiding ball is a happy ball :) Humidity is Ok for everyday, when you see him going into shed bump it up to 70 by misting the tank often. Once a week feeding is fine, the prey should be equal to or a lil bigger than the widest part of the snake.

It's only natural for specimens to hide, it's their thing. They will eventually come out for "foraging" and the like, usually in the evening. And yes humidity is necessary mainly for respiratory and dermatological health, 50-60% is fine. This is my 2013 pastel, she eats one rat pup every 6-7 days... . Hope that helps.
