Was Hoping To Get Some Responses Before Trying This Trick
So I am already hot into the 13-14 season, and have five girls locking up like crazy. I have three other females that are close to breeding weight, but are very finicky and sporadic feeders (:tears:), so their weight has been steady for some time. But I really want them to breed this year.
So, I know that breeding spurs the feeding response of a lot of females and certainly has for my girls this year. So I was considering throwing a male in with those females that are close to weight to see if I could get them to feed more steadily and gain the necessary weight to breed comfortably. The snakes are 1300, 1380, and 1220 grams. I have been starting my breeding at 1500 grams.
Would this be dangerous to my girls if one of them ended up gravid from this experimental pairing?
What do you guys think?

Those weights are perfectly fine to breed as long as they have good body condition and aren't particularly skinny. A female that is short and chunky, but at 1200g, will be a better breeding candidate than a long skinny 1900g female with no fat reserves for example.
Plus when they're building, they'll eat like mad and gain a few hundred grams. One of my females gained 800g in less than 3 months of breeding.

It's age and weight that need to be taken into consideration .
For example I would not breed a 1 yo 1500 grams female but have no problem breeding older 1100/1200 grams females.

x2. When they start growing follicles they eat like crazy, thats the time to throw some big rats!. I did that last year and this year also, worked fine for me!
