Hey it's me again and I got a question?

To all the BP enthusiast when u feed rats weather you breed them or buy them have you ever feed a hairless rat to your BPs ? I am establishing a new colony of rats (hairless male to Rex albino female and Rex female. What are some of the pros and cons of a hairless weaned rat or hopper in your opinion? I would GUESS that the hair plays a part, sort of like how fiber plays a part in our diet. I don't know for sure though... Perhaps a hairless rat is even easier to digest :confusd:

I could be way off on this but I thought I heard my Rodent guy talk about the hair holding in the smell of the rat.
In reference to feeding a problem feeder a size up from Pinks because it had some fur.

Not really sure if that would be a concern but thought I would throw that out there.

I raise, feed and sell them, I haven't had any issues or complaints.

My girl got a big 120 gram hairless last night, took it down no problem... Then again, she eats anything soooo I'm not sure if that's helpful lol. But you won't have any hairless in your f1 gen unless one of the rex girls happens to carry the hairless gene, or if your hairless is in fact a double rex (in which case you won't get any hairless, just rexes and double rex). Either way, my snakes don't care either way on the status of their hair :)

I buy frozen hairless mice for my snakes. They eat them just as well as the mice with hair. I have heard the hair helps for the smell, but there is no difference between me feeding haired or hairless. If you like/want to breed hairless for feeders there's no reason you can't. I personally don't like breeding hairless rats because they don't do as well and have smaller litters. Of course that's just my experience.

Ive never fed hairless because they were too expensive. I always thoughtthe hair helped with cleaning them out like fiber does us. Also I always thought the hairless were ugly and hard to keep warm. I know the 1 ps we had close to where I live had them for almost $40 a piece. They also had problems with them getting sick because of catching a chill. I've owned hooded rats that were sweethearts. They were pets not food.

Shoot, maybe I should start selling mine for 40 bucks a pop! I haven't had any problems with lactation or small litters, but there are different lines of hairless with varying degrees of issues. So maybe I just lucked out.
