BP: Baytril: how long does it take until it "Kicks in"
I have been giving her baytril for about 3 weeks now, once daily, I was just wondering how long until the RI goes away or the symptoms subside, its been about the same for the last 3 weeks; every time we give her the antibiotics orally a lot of mucous will come up and she will be wiping it on my shirt for about 3-4 minutes before I feel she can go back in.

I noticed a change in the first few days. If, after three weeks, you're not seeing an improvement I think it's time to go back to the vet and make sure they do a culture and prescribe something stronger. Keep in mind that it seems worse when they're cold or stressed (if I ever let the ambients drop below 80 I noticed a huge increase in mucus production and also more yawning and seeing other symptoms more in general.

You should have noticed a change by now. Did the culture show that Baytril was the correct med to use?

I find that whats best is to take 2 syringes. Prep 1 with water, and the other with Baytril. First give your snake the water, and then use that same syringe to suction out any mucous that may be in its mouth. Then administer the medicine.

The vets I've used don't prescribe oral Baytril, just the injections, and usually will prescribe both Baytril and Fortaz simultaneously administered every 3 days for 30 days. I usually see an improvement in a week.

Did they do a culture to make sure that was the right antibiotic? That's what I'm worried about. There are several types of RI and each takes its own antibiotic or combination of antibiotics to cure.
