Free Snake Shipping Bags
I was at our local ABC Liquor store a few weeks ago and they had a 5-gallon bucket full of Crown Royal bags. They were brand new...store manager said they get cases of CR in for local restaurants and the restaurants don't want the bags so he throws all the empty bags in a bucket. They're great for shipping bp's up to about 400 grams or so...grabbed about 30 of them and that wasn't even half of what was in the bucket. :)

hmm, to make them into proper snake bags i would machine-wash them all once. otherwise, since its just a promotional item, you never know, you might get purple snakes, loose plastic microparticles are also not good for breathing. i think proper washing is a must.
and then i would take the cords out, and keep them, and then just use a correct knot that can be re-opened to close the bags. i have no faith in the mechanism they currently have, when you pull these really tight too much material gets crammed together around the cord and it doesnt properly close. i know that kind of mechanism from sleeping bag storage bags and tent equipment and stuff, it doesnt safely and completely close. so it seems a bit risky, with enough effort a BP could end up getting the head and neck out and get stuck. its safer to pull them all out, secure the ends of the cords, and use the traditional way of closing the bag with a cord.
its still nice bags and nice cords, and pulling out the cords is easy. nice stuff. im in Europe, so shipping would be too much, but you may consider getting the rest and re-selling the excess cheaply on this forum.

I didn't use the cords to secure the bags. That's what zip-ties are for. :D I didn't wash them. I gave them the sniff test and they smelled better than a dirty sock so I just went with it...

seriously, wash them :) you gave it a sniff test, if used as transport bags a BP will give them the 12 hour continuous sniff test. also you didnt give it a lick and chew test, and you didnt put it on moist skin for hours (BPs sometimes pee). its a promotional item, the quality of the dyes and the contained chemicals may not be of the quality you expect of clothing.
yeah the zip ties work perfectly, i would still put the cords out in that case, just to keep the second and third owner of the bag from messing up.
But you dont need zip ties if you have such nice cords :)
use this knot, and the white end and the red end connect to make the loop around the bag:

(for the mods: the wikimedia foundation allows and tolerates hotlinks)
this knot is safe and can be re-opened, and can be done firmly, you might put a third layer on it just in case. you might use a zip-tie for additional safety. maybe im just biased when it comes to knots due to sailing, i prefer cords instead of zip-ties almost all the time because you can do and undo the knots until the cord wears out. Of course it also depends on the quality of the cord, cords intended purely for decoration can really suck when you apply some serious knots.
