BP hiding in center of enclosure now?
So I have an adult sized enclosure for my juvenile and the last 2 days hes been fine, zooming around the tank exploring going in his hot hide for a bit coming out etc. you know, being a snake. Well anyway, recently instead of sitting in his warm hide hes kind of in the middle of the tank in the back behind a log and underneath his plant all tucked up. Is this normal? normally with a smaller tank I guess this might not happen but im concerned maybe his hide is not tight enough or something

Its a snake, let it do as it pleases. Theres some kind of a method to its madness, this method would be the chilling in the middle of the enclosure method.

Fyi, if it stops eating, get it a smaller enclosure.

If the hides are not snug fitting he might not feel secure in them. I know some BPs are more out and about than others but both of mine basically spend all of their time in their hides except at night close to feeding day. When I got my pewter she was out during the day and roaming around but I think it was because she was trying to find a way out, it was foreign to her (she was in a tub originally, and I have her in a glass terrarium). How long have you had your BP? Also what are your temps and what do you use for heat?

Maybe your warm side is to hot for him and he's trying to find a happy medium.my hide is pretty big for him. When he balls up I can fit like 2 1/2 of them in there, but he still hangs in it. All the way in the back corner of it and seems happy.

my guy is forever in his warm hide, never ever chills on the cool side, unless he is out searching for food or being nosey, then he hangs on the cool side slithering around. He comes out of is hide maybe 2 times a week anywhere for an hour to 3-4 hours, that's what I see atleast. So check your temps and humidity.

thanks guys for all the tips

update: Just picked up an acurite to place into the tank instead of my crappy analog and tape strip gauges. Low and behold my warm side was 125 DEGREES. I thought the damned thing was broken at first... thank god hes only been in there for a few days like that before I convinced myself to buy the digital gauge. As of now im going to have to plug/unplug the UTH as needed until I get a thermostat but im sure he will be back in his cozy warm hide soon :)

Honestly, I have an analog and tape heat thermostat strip.lol.... I only use 75w-100w bulbs for red light and day light anyway..won't use any lower or higher, don't need to,ut I make sure I monitor the UTH ..so far everything is good and accurate with my snake it seems...so I'm fine with the CRAP I have...

Then how do you monitor your hotspot may I ask?
And how do you know its accurate?

To me a thermostat is pretty much a must for SAFE husbandry. As regular as a setup seems, things can change in a second and result in burns and injuries.

Easy answer, snakes are weird :P
My mojave girl does this. her hides fit her perfectly and everything, but right now she curled up smack dab in the middle of her tub. lol oh well whatever makes her happy.

yeah I never realized how important it is to have a thermostat on the UTH. Messed up thing is soooooo many people dont use them... 125 degrees is insane, and unplugging it and plugging it back in again is near impossible so just ordered a thermostat today. Hes still in the middle of the tank tho even when his warm hide is registering at 90

edit: oh yeah and he must be fine because he ate his first meal yesterday so everything is looking good! :gj:
