Shed twice in 11 days, Any insight?
Hi guys, My female spider went into shed yesterday. Her last shedding was on October 14th. Unbelievable!! It's been just 11 days. She is sitting around 600g, and I've been keeping her since May 12th when she was 92g, she hardly misses any meal, eating like horses. I've been keeping 6 BPs for about a year, nothing like this happened before. I try to do a little bit of search online but to no avail. I just want to know is this kind of thing happens for no particular reason or an indication of illness? Temp is 86-89, humidity is 40%-60%, last time she ate was the day after her shedding which is October 15th. It seems to me everything was alright. I don't worry too much about her well-being, but just thought it'd be helpful to know what you guys have to say. Any insight would be helpful, Thanks!

Hi,
She doesn't have any bites or scratches does she?
I know they will shed more often as part of the healing process.

Hi, Dr del
After realizing that might be the case in some occasions, I took a moment to carefully check it, but there weren't any such signs, and I normally feed F/T rats so there shouldn't be such issues.

My female lesser went through a growth spurt at one point, shedding twice in one month. I'll have to check the charts for the exact dates but I think it was about 2 weeks between physical sheds. Everyone of mine gets f/t and keeps a regular feeding schedule. No scratches and no bites. 100% healthy and normal. It was strange because it was a first for me too but it's been months and no ill effects

Let's see some pics. That's an awesome growth rate.

I thought that was normal for the babies. In her first year with me she shed at least 2 times a month for about 6 months. I would always check her over well because I feed live. I would make sure to hold the rodent so it couldn't bite her but accidents happen.

There can be several reasons for rapid shedding, injurys or growth are two of the most common. I'd say judging my how fast she's been growing for you the latter is the most likely answer. 500g in 5 months is pretty quick so I'd say she's just going through another growth spurt. You also might want to double check the heat as high temps can also hasten growth.

That's exactly what I do when feeding live mice, but she is feeding on rat now which has the capacity to inflict serious damage if not being careful, So I've switched to F/T, that way I'm feeling much more comfortable.

Thanks. I'll keep an close eye on her, in the meantime,I'll try to post some photos in a couple of hours.
Another question, I've heard that growing too quick might cause sterility in BP, I highly doubt that, is there any truth behind it? If so, Is 500g in 5 months fall into that category? This is a big concern for me, since I'm plan to get into breeding in 2 or 3 years.
