    Herpstat on heat lamp
Hey just wondering if I can use my herpstat on my heat lamp above the cage until my t8 gets here. Or can heat lamps not be controlled by a herpstat?

    Hi,

The only trouble I have had putting a thermostat on a heat lamp was if I used an on/off thermostat as the blinking on and off really annoyed me and drastically reduced the life of the lamp.

Using a dimming thermostat it works perfectly with none of those issues. :)

The only lamps that you can't use with a proportional thermostat are fluorescent lamps and HID lamps (mercury vapor/metal halide/sodium/etc) all incandescent lamps, and most halogen lamps should be fine.

So the those red heat bulbs from petco should be just fine for a week being controlled by the herpstat?

I've had one hooked up to my herpstat 4 for over a year without any issues.

The only thing is that at certain power levels the bulbs will resonate and produce a soft whine. Nothing to worry about it's just physics at work.
