Hi,
The only trouble I have had putting a thermostat on a heat lamp was if I used an on/off thermostat as the blinking on and off really annoyed me and drastically reduced the life of the lamp.
Using a dimming thermostat it works perfectly with none of those issues. :)

So the those red heat bulbs from petco should be just fine for a week being controlled by the herpstat?

I've had one hooked up to my herpstat 4 for over a year without any issues.
The only thing is that at certain power levels the bulbs will resonate and produce a soft whine. Nothing to worry about it's just physics at work.
