Newly adopted breeding pair

Just adopted a breeding pair of ball pythons with a big enclosure!!!! Major score for a great price!!! They might be more comfortable with some better hides (those ones are pretty open) and as someone who doesn't think cohabitation is a safe practice, I hope you're planning to split them up outside of breeding.

Though I'm a little perplexed how either of these snakes could produce a Chocolate since they're both obviously normals. I think you may have had your leg pulled just a little there or the seller does not know what a Chocolate BP looks like.

I don't necessarily think it was a chocolate but a very very dark normal. They still have the clutch and I can't understand how they got pied balls from that clutch? The setup I'm totally changing around tomorrow since I just got these two like an hour ago. I will def be splitting the two up!!!

Well, Piebald is a recessive gene so it's not far fetched for Pied hatchlings to pop out of clutch from two visually normal snakes. They're likely both het. Pied which means they carry the ingredients to make Pied babies but do not express it visually themselves.

If they got 5 pieds from this pair the odd gods were on their side in a big way. Assuming these are het pieds thats only a 25% chance of hitting a pied per egg. So 5/8 is pretty crazy odds. Also a chocolate? These look like normals. Do you know the person you purchased them from? If not i think they may be yanking your leg pretty good.

Good luck with them, Mark! :) Only one way to find out if they're hets - get some weight on them and test them out next year!
