Feeding Incident

So I just fed Monda (rescued Normal Male) killed a rat for his meal today. I noticed a small pool of blood in his habitat. He is currently swallowing the rat. I will try to make sure he didn't get bitten once he done eating. If he is bit treating it with hydrogen peroxide then getting him to the Vet on Monday since none are open till then.

Hopefully your snake isn't hurt. I understand that some snakes only eat live but because things like this do happen is why I feed f/t or at least try yo switch them to pre kill. Again I hope your snake is fine keep us updated good luck.

Looks like he got tagged. He did have a bad strike. He normally waits for the rat to poke it's head into his hide to strike.

If you feel like you must use something please use betadine and not peroxide.

I would hold off on the hydrogen peroxide unless some more informed than me chimes in. Neosporin (Without any kind of pain killer) is usually what's recommended for boo-boos...I don't know if hydrogen peroxide is safe or not...

Not very much at all. It looks more like a scrape then a cut. At most I would say maybe a stain in on the bedding between the size of a nickel and a quarter. It is no longer bleeding at this point. Some of the blood is also from the rat. I did see a popped eye as well.

Swab with a betadine tincture, and then leave it alone.

Thankfully your snake is alright. This could have been a whole lot worse. My friendly advice to you (and please don't take this personally) is to try and switch your snake to either frozen thawed or pre killed rats/mice . Or if it's a live and only live feeder keep an eye on it while it's eating and have a pair of tongs or something that you can stick in the rats/mouse mouth while your snake is constricting it... This can help avoid situations where your snake can get tagged... Best of luck with your snake.

It happens. These types of bites heal really well, even without treatment. Wild snakes take nips all the time. The only time to worry about it is if the wound is deep, which yours obviously isn't. I feed f/t for the most part, but some snakes just insist on live. A long as you keep an eye on them, your snake won't get seriously hurt.

Itll be fine, after its next shed you wont even be able to tell it happened. Nothing wrong with live dont let all the naysayers get you down. A good portion of members here feed only live, myself included. Bites can happen, so what. Just supervise and be prepared to stick something in the rats mouth if necessary.
