TJ Maxx/Ross/Marshalls...I usually find them there on closeout for a buck or two...

You can also find them cheap at Goodwill or thrift stores...just gotta make sure they aren't too funked up...

in Germany, in cheap stores, ive seen suitable ones for as low as 3-4 euros (around 4-6 dollars). ive even seen options for as low as 1 euro. just look for stuff designed for dogs or other pets, or for growing plants. where it is glazed and the quality of the surface are most relevant, well, apart from the shape and weight.

just give them a proper run in the dishwasher before you use them, thats the ultimate test. if they are the right size and shape and the snake doesnt tip them over, and most importantly when they survive the dishwasher, its fine.

quality is hard to get and more expensive anyway, and often cheap stuff turns out to be of decent quality. i have some stoneware bowls and plates that go into the dishwasher after use and that are up to 60 years old. You dont know beforehand how they will perform unless you buy them at maybe 30 dollars a piece from a reputable manufacturer of quality stoneware. And when it comes to quality, there is no difference between the very cheap, the cheap, and the average, your eyes make the first assessment and the dishwasher is the ultimate judge.
