Clown 66% het pied or pied
I'm struggling. I deciding whether or not to get a clown 66% het pied or a pied with maybe a het pied female with size. I do have a het pied but not ready to breed. Also, I dont think trying to prove out the clown poss het pied with another het pied breeding is wise. Opinions?

how badly do you want to produce clown pieds?

and yes, clown possible het pied to visual pied would be better, because then, even if it does not prove out, you at least get 100% double-hets clown pied. and if it does prove out, you have at least one clown 100% het pied and one pied 100% het clown; a pair of these gives you a whopping 25% chance to hit the double recessive.

but clown possible het pied to het pied... worst case would be you get only hets that are 100% het clown and 50% possible het pieds, and how do you prove these out if you dont have visual pieds? if you dont luck out and hit a pied het clown, you will be deep in the woods. You need to overcome odds, just to get proven 100% double hets.

i would get a pied first. make some visual pieds. hatch some nice stuff. also the pieds will later help A LOT for a double recessive project, its much easier and more straightforward when you have at least some visual breeders of one of the two recessives. Then a clown possible het pied will have maximum effectivity.

Me personally I like clowns, and I'm not huge on pieds, so I say go for clown. Though I only like Sean's clowns because of the extra gene. If your familiar with him then you'll know his clowns are by far the best. That's what I want to work on in a year or two.
