finally...my new baby bp!

she is finally here! i bought her today from alan bosch at a reptile show in charleston, sc. (and i would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a bp--he knows his stuff and was SO helpful.) she is a possible 50% het for albino, but i don't know yet if i will breed her. that is something to think about much farther down the road.

and also, is it really necessary to not handle them for a week after you get them so that they have time to get used to their new environment? i seriously don't think i can stand it for that long. :D

Awwwwwwww, so cute. Damn baby bp's and their cute little heads, lol. She seems to have a pretty and vibrant pattern. :)

As for the handling thing, I guess it's not exactly necessary, but it's probably best for the snake to adjust for a week or so in its new home. I know some people don't stick to that "rule" but I think I'm going to try my best to leave my baby alone for as long of a week as I can. I don't want to risk any unnecessary stress on the snake. All you have to do is provide a properly heated environment with two safe hides and fresh water. Then let the snakey do her thing for a week. Then try feeding her. If she takes it, then wait a few days, and then I'd assume it's cool to start short handling sessions every day. :) I'm not trying to tell you how to raise your baby though. Just use your best judgement. :D Good luck and congrats! :)

Its definitely better to leave them alone for at least a week. I know its difficult, but it allows them some time to adjust from the stress of the show, the stress of the ride home in that little plastic container. IMO its definitely better, but as Cody said ... its all up to you :). Congratulations on the little guy! He's quite a looker :)

mlededee, I bought snakes from Alan Bosch as well, but at the Dixie Reptile Show in Birmingham. He is a good guy. It's not a hard and fast rule that a week is how long it takes to settle in, but it is a good general guideline, particularly as some snakes actually take longer than that to destress and settle properly. I know it's difficult to leave them alone for an entire week, but it really is better to do it.

i think that my little girl is settling in well--last night i peeked in on her at around 10:30pm and she was stretched out over one hide, across some driftwood and was reaching up toward the top of her enclosure. i totally expected her to be hiding. but i guess i'll give her the week to settle in regardless, tough as it's gonna be :D i can't even believe how cute snakes can be!
