This crazy boa had be baffled
It's been 137 days since she ovulated. She had no post ov shed. Her mass never dropped to her tail. She had some weird Nero issue that thankfully with the advice of Jeremy Stone cleared up on its own. I was truely beginning to worry that she had impacted with slugs and was going to need surgery; or worse . Then today I went in to clean cages and was greeted by a very angry boa gapping and hissing at the glass.

    And hiding behind her.....

6 healthy motley het albino, 3 healthy het albinos, 4 still born and 3 slugs
I will post some better pics of the babies once they've shed.

Just one more thing in a very, very long list of things I have to be thankful for this year.

    Happy thanksgiving everyone.

A stillborn is a fully formed baby that, for one reason or another, is born dead. A slug is an ova that never developed within the mother and is subsequently expelled during birth. They look like an ugly, wilted sweet potato.

Congrats on healthy babies! Correct me if I'm wrong, but that sounds like a big litter-- but I'm also not familiar with boas, so I very well may be wrong. What is considered an average viable litter size?

It's actually a little small (which is not a bad thing!). An average litter size is usually 20 or so. Some larger and more experienced females can have 30-40 offspring in one litter!

Thanks for all the kind words. This was a small litter. But since I was starting to think that I was actually going to lose the female I would have been happy with her just passing a bunch of slugs and recovering. This of course was a much better out come :D.
I ended up with 5.1 motley 100% het Kahl albino and 2.1 100% Kahl albino.
The mother has a fair amount of coral in her so I can't wait till the males come up to size to see what kind of babies they produce when breed back to mom. Mom is getting a well desrved couple of years off.

I've decided to hold back 2 of the male motleys, at least until I can decide what one is my favorite. All the other motleys have been spoken for by friends before they even started feeding lol.
I've got a crappy cell picture of one of my hold backs just after he shed and now that they have had a couple of meals I'll get some decent pictures and post them.
