Should I Be Feeding Small Rats??
Hey all, so I got my BP about a month ago and she eats medium rats every week. She is about 4 feet long and I unfortunately have not gotten a scale to measure weight. Anyway, I am currently at a pet center and I talked to a guy who breeds boas and seems to know his stuff. I told him about my BP and he told me I should be feeding small rats to a BP that is about her length. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance

Go to WalMart, get a kitchen scale, and weigh your girl.

If the medium rat is the same width or a lil bigger than your girl then that's what she should be eating, length really doesn't have much to do with it.

I was just at a pet store now and met some dude who breeds ball pythons and his own rats that he breeds. Gave me his FB info, it's XJC constrictors.... He told me I should go to rats ASAP. That's what most on here advise as well,Rats

4 feet long. I can assume he's proportionally like my 4-foot long ball python. My girl would be eating mediums. But you can easily gauge this by looking at the girth of the widest part of your snake compared to the girth of the rat. If the rat is about the same girth or even just slightly larger, you're good.

Like they said, if the width of the rat is equal to or slightly larger than the width of the snake, you should be fine. Personally, I go by the width of the snake's head, as that is what I was raised on.

Wow, she could easily be eating small and maybe medium rats with her width. This is gonna be the last time I listen to this pet store employee near my apartment...thanks guys!
