Weezing BP

i just picked up this lesser male , when i got him home and got him close i could hear him weezing . little whistle closed mouth . hes is 450 grams. and hes stuck in a bad shed. How do i know if its the bad shed or something worse???? please help ty

Check his mouth for mucous and listen to popping.

Its most likely stuck shed though. If hes still whistling after the shed is gone, it may be RI.

i dont here the weezing sound all the time. his head hasnt shed at all.

unless it gets worse, focus on the shedding issue. And there it is about moisture, people suggest damp towels or letting it crawl in a wet pillowcase or giving a hide with wet damp sphygnum moss or giving it a bath.

pictures would help a lot.

Wheezing could be from stuck shed in the nostrils. If he was wheezing from a RI then you would see bubbling or visible mucous in the mouth. Once his head sheds completely I would imagine the wheezing would go away but definitely check for the other signs.

Like the others have said, hopefully it is just a stuck shed issue on his head. If the shed comes off but he is still weezing, it could be the onset of a respiratory infection. Keep an eye on him.

Not sure if you can relate to me, but I thought that one of my BPs had either a RI or a bad shed because she started sqeaking all of a sudden. I checked her for mucus but never found anything.

Well that was a year ago. She still sqeaks. Usually when being handled and sometimes in her terrarium. I haven't taken her to a vet but she eats perfectly fine and acts like a happy snake she is. So apparently it does happen sometimes.

If anyone has input about what it might be I'm perfectly open to suggestions.

I have a corn snake that, ever since I got him about a year ago, wheezes and clicks a bit. I've never noticed any mucus, nor any stuck shed across her nostrils (which was my first concern with the situation). To this day, he still wheezes a bit, but has never shown any signs of discomfort or obvious sickness. I've heard from some people that it may be some sort of obstruction in the airway, genetic or otherwise, but I'm not entirely certain. If you hear anything about this, let me know!

a while ago in a thread i noticed that several people have cinnamons / black pastels / super cinnamons / super black pastels that are, well, a bit melodic. :D

it may be that because of the altered skull shape the wheezing / squeaking / whistling happens more often in cinnamon / black pastel.

apart from that, there always is the usual randomness in all natural and living things.

Interesting, my black pastel het hypo female is a "squeaker" when she gets excited or stressed. A few times I've thought she was starting an RI, especially since she did have one early this year so I'm a bit paranoid about checking her, but since getting over the last one she's never exhibited any of the other symptoms like bubbles, mucus, lying with the nose pointed up the wall, excessive yawning, etc.

As for the OP, the initial reaction to either a bad shed or a potential RI is pretty much the same - increase the humidity and wait a day or two to see what happens.
