    Calico vs. Sugar
So all you experts, what's the difference between a sugar and calico?

if you want one, i suggest you search for both calico and sugar until you find one you really like, and then get it no matter if its a calico or sugar.

its either identical or very, very similar.

Well my buddy is selling a 750g sugar female for 650 and can't get it moved. He's got 80 snakes and trying to downsize to just one rack and told me if I help him build some rat racks I can have her for 375 and give him $50 payments. I'm getting her regardless but was just wondering the difference.

It can be a bit of a heated debate, but personally I think they're like Lessers and Butters. The same mutation from different lines. You'll get nice looking ones and not so nice looking ones from both lines with individuals with the most amount of white being in the highest demand.

Ya that's what I figured. She's not the highest white but not the lowest. I guess about normal. So I figured 375 on payments was fantastic. About 50-75 a month. Also gonna let me take a 200g bumblebee female for 200 on same payments. Figured why not. I've always wanted a calico.

I've been checking out both a lot lately. and while they both seem to have the same appearance sugars seem to more consitantly throw higher whites. I've seen a pile of calicos so low white they have little if any on them. I could count on one hand how many sugars I have seen like that.

Same mutation, different likes like MarkS said.
However, I do think the sugar has been better selected, thus more consistent looks (black back, better overall color, high whites) in my opinion.

I have a calico myself and think sugar is the 'better' of the two. At least these days.
I've seen many different calicos and sugars. In my opinion, a nice sugar is way better than a nice calico.

That's a good way of saying it. I also have seen better looking sugar, but I think it has more to do with the originator taking more care in selecting what the founder was bred to rather then any difference in the mutation itself.

This is a single gene Calico female that I bought for $310. I will put her up against any Sugar out there. The point being that I too think they are 2 lines of the same morph. The price premium for a Sugar is unnecessary if you are willing to look for the right Calico.

I think you are getting a sweet deal on the gal your getting, especially for her size. Not as much white as I like to see, but that can be improved with the right male bred to her.
