Ants ate the whole cricket hatchling colony
Hi,
Yesterday when I got home from school and checked my cricket hatchling tub I realized there where hundreds of sugar ants and none of crickets. I alteady moved them to another place but I was wondering if you have any ideas of how to totally get rid of them. Thanks

I had a terrible ant problem early this year. Terro ant bait worked to get rid of them. I bought bulk packs on amazon.com since I had them in several places in the house.

I have them in my reptile room which is inside my house. I will try to use some anti ant powder and will see how it works.
Re: Ants ate the whole cricket hatchling colony
Spread diatomaceous earth around(not in) your cricket enclosure. People tend to spread it around their house and yard to keep ants away. It is a natural non toxic insect killer. Its fine powder made from diatomic particles. The way it works is that it slices and destroys exoskeletons and the insect cannot survive. Its safe for mammals and poultry, which is why people use them to powder/dust their pets to get rid of fleas and mites. And ingesting them in a dewormer.(food grade type)
You can find diatomaceous earth in garden centers, insect repellent area of Lowes/home depot, feed stores, or health food stores. The garden type isn't as finely ground so its not good for ingestion. Only the food grade kind. But for your purpose either will work fine.
And don't mistake it for the pool filter stuff.

I don't know if this hurts crickets or anything but if you put some powdered cinnamon down the ants will avoid it like the plague. I would put little cinnamon piles where they might come in or around things and they hate it and never come back.
