quarantine

i was just wondering what you actually have to do for it lol. i plan on getting my second ball this weekend at the long island expo. i do not use a rack system and i really cant put my new addition in another room since im at college -_-. any suggestions would help thank you in advance

Well, if you cant put the new addition in another room, quarantine is gonna be difficult. Keep the new snake in its own tub as far away as possible from the other snake. Use separate equipment for each, and always work with the new snake last. Sanitize your hands thoroughly inbetween snakes. And depending on where/who the snake came from, quarantine should last about 30-90 days

It is possible to quarantine in the same room. As Crystal said, keep them as far away from each other as possible, use separate equipment, make sure you do the new snake last.

Honestly, even quarantining in a separate room isn't perfect quarantine and really no different than keeping them on opposite sides of the room. When you quarantine in the same house (unless you have a specially designed room) they are still sharing the same air so it doesn't really matter if they are 2 rooms down or 10ft across the room. Air born illnesses can and will still spread.

Just make sure you are careful and don't forget the new snake is in quarantine. For me having them in a different room just serves as a reminder that I need to do them last and make sure I am extra careful about contaminating my existing animals.

I read through part of the description of the disease that killed off the collection in the first post. The disease was airborn and as I said in my first post unless you have a separate building or room that is completely sealed off quarantining in the same house will not prevent the spread of an airborn disease. It doesn't matter how far away your collection is from where you quarantine if they share the same air supply. A door or two isn't going to stop an air born pathogen. :(

This sucks now I don't know what to do -_- I don't wanna risk it but I do want another so I can get my breeding plans in motion

Do you have a friend or family member that could keep the new snake for you during a quarantine period? That might be one way to do it if you don't want to run the risk of keeping them both in your room.
