    Butter vs Lesser
Maybe I'm missing something totally obvious, but what differences are there between the two?

I ask because I'm trying to decide if getting one or the other will be enough to satisfy my future breeding endeavors, or if I should just buy both. (Oh, gee, that would be awful, having more cute snakes around)

Same thing, a few different animals got pulled out of the wild (one actually being a combo), and they got labeled butter and the combo was called a platinum, which produced the lesser platinums aka lesser, but generally people agree it is the same morph. So to answer your question, buy the one you think looks the best for your plans and don't worry about the label people put on it.

But... but... I like them both!

    Sigh. Snake people problems.

there also has been some mixing and re-labeling and cross-labeling going on over the years.

if there is a difference, i say its as simple as this: lessers are more greyish/silvery, reduced in yellow and brown to a degree. And butters have richer yellows and browns.

i used to say its just one and the same, but now i know that some people work with both, lessers and butters, and picked the right lines, and in these collections you can actually tell them apart by color difference. even in combos like butterbee vs lesserbee.

anyway, they are still nearly identical, just pick what you like more. you will find lessers that look like butter and butters that look like lessers, as i say, lots of mixup and mislabeling over the years. just search for both until you find a BP or combo you like.

Same genetic mutation, different lines of origin.

If there are any differences between the two, it is just natural variation. If there is a more reduced, more busy, more yellow, more cream, etc butter out there. There is a lesser out there that is the same.
