Scale Suggestions?

My wife and I have been in the market for purchasing a scale to weigh our snakes and monitor their growth. What types of scales do you guys use, and where would you suggest getting one? Would a kitchen scale be good, if they have a high enough capacity, or do you use something a bit more...scientific?

Any kitchen scale works as long as it goes high enough or your needs.

I did order one from RBI a few months back because I needed something for our larger snakes. Couldn't find anything local that went high enough.
I'm really happy with it.

I bought the generic $20 kitchen scale at Target. It worked great for almost 2 years but recently just stopped working. I didnt drop it or anything. It literally just sat on top of my snake rack 99% of the time.

I'm looking forward to seeing what others post in this thread though. I'm looking for a new scale too. :gj:

I was looking at some of the scales on Target's website, and was seeing that the ones in a decent price range had a weight limit up to 11 pounds. While that would easily let us get by right now, I know that in the future we will need something more than that. Just not sure if, given the difference in pricing, if its something to wait for or just buy a larger one now.

I use a 12-lb digital kitchen scale that has g/kg/oz/lb unit conversions and a reset button that allows me to use bowls or tupperwares to hold the snakes in while weighing. I got it from Target. I've had it since 2008 and besides changing out the battery, it's been pretty reliable. I even tested it against the Post Office scales and it matched within a couple milligrams. I use it fairly often because I also use it to measure out my dogs' meat.

I'm in the market for one as well, and based on the description and reviews, I'm going to give this one a try.

For that price (I get free 2-day shipping with prime), I can stand to replace it if/when my snake outgrows it. (Or, hell, just use my bathroom scale at that point.)

I just got the cheapest digital one at walmart. Suits my needs perfectly.

grams, resolution 1 gram or 2 grams, up to 2000 grams or 5000 grams. kitchen scale.

i had a laboratory scale at my disposal for a while. really fun. it resolved the weight of a signature done with a ball point pen. the paper gained weight, the pen lost weight. frightening. resolution 0.00001 gram. truly heisenberg. the same coin would give different readings depending on its temperature because hot air rises up.

anyway what you want is to delete ounces and pounds from your mind, these are dead, and 1000 grams are a kilogram and 1000 kilograms is a metric ton. its just so base 10 linear, really easy, it even covers the megaton range you might know from talk about thermonuclear weapons.

then just buy a digital scale, kitchen scale.

My balls are big and healthy, they're all definitely in the megaton range. Where can i find a scale that goes up to megatons??

I have a gram scale that goes up to 7000g from Ebay for $8 shipped. I've tested it's accuracy with a friend's Target one and it's good.


I'm thinking of buying this one at Costco for $15. My boyfriend has one and it's really nice. I like that the digital read is to the side of the scale and it has a pretty good size surface. It's larger than mine at least.
