African Giant Millipede question...

if placed in a cage with live plants, will the millipedes eat the plants?

Sure - they nibble from time to time. I used to keep mine with planted Pothos & they'd eat the leaves every now & then. If you keep your 'pedes well fed they'll be less inclined to eat the plants.

Thank you! I'm thinking of putting one in a planted tank with my crested gecko and hoping they wouldn't bother the plants.

Something to keep in mind - giant African 'pedes secrete a toxin as a defense mechanisim. Seeing as how crested geckos tend to be fairly "licky" from time to time, there's certainly a possiblity that the gecko could be exposed to this toxin, especially if the 'pede felt threatened by the gecko's presence.

Just something to think about.

millipedes also need lots of soil and heating pad tiger. is that okay substrate for a cresty and would a heating pad make it too warm for her?

I plan to use a soil mix (need it for the live plants) and the heating pad would be okay for a crestie since the crestie is more arboreal the effects of any belly heat won't affect the air temps that much.

It was an idea mentioned in Philippe De Vosiji (spelled right?) latest book on the Rhachs. He's done it without any problems before.
