I'm trying to decide between a 48x24x12 or 48x24x18 cage for a male Hog I plan to get in the near future. As you can see the only difference is the height - but being new to Hogs I don't know if he'd make use of the height or would it be 'wasted'? I just don't know how much of a difference the 6 inches will be. Of course it matters space and money wise - but that's not the reason I'm asking. But obiviously if I go with the lower cage I'll be able to stack more cages than if I went with the 18inch high cage. Any opinions would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Need help w/ cage size for Hog Island Boa....
i dont think the taller cage is necesary, they ae more "to the ground" snakes, although, they might want to go in a branch or something, so you might want to try to find something that isnt too tall, but a lil off the ground

congrats on getting a hogg soon. beautiful animals

HIs are a bit more "arboreal" than other BCIs probably because they are lighter bodied and shorter. My cages are 4x2x2 and have branches and/or "jungle gyms" that the snakes use quite frequently. With that being said... It really is up to you what you get. I dont think that the snake would really care either way. If you are planning on a large collection and space is a real concern then the 12" tall would be the way to go. If you have the room to spare an 18" or 24" tall would be great.
