I was bored so I started a new project
I had a whole pile of old shed skins that I had no idea what to do with, other than toss them out (I had been saving them for a big project that fell through). So I thought for a while and figured it would be really neat to make some "snake skin" accessories. This was just my test one. Now I'm trying to think of what else to do it with. It feels so cool and it looks pretty neat (I think). I still need to apply a few more coats to it (and you can see in the pics it is still wet), but I am really pleased with it. Not sure if it's something I should wear out around here though. Snakes aren't popular (especially in New Mexico!) and I'm worried it may give the wrong idea about snake skin? Wish I could make it obvious that the snake it came from is alive, lol!
Anyhow, here's attempt number one.

I have a friend who keeps ball pythons who is going to give me some of those too, so I'm pretty excited to work with that. I think it would be neat to try bp sheds over colored bases. The boa pattern would just get lost, I think.

Very cool. Haven't seen this done before. I've seen the snake shed nails though.

That's actually where I got the idea from. It's the same basic idea, but I tried to find some sort of guide online and I couldn't really find anything, so we will see how durable it turns out to be.

That's pretty cool. I'm amazed you got it on in one nice piece without it tearing. Were you working with a fresh shed that was still wet? Also what are you sealing it with?
