Hatchling food question.

I would like to start my babies on rat crawlers, however I am facing a dilemma that doesn't make them easy to obtain. Damn work schedule -___-
So if I start on mouse hoppers, can I stock up for two or three feedings or do hoppers still need their mothers milk?

You can start them on rat pinks, fuzzies. Many breeders start on mouse hoppers because of the movement. Hoppers are well off their mothers milk(I think)? I'd assume only the mouse pinks and fuzzies are on the moms milk.

Well the thing is, getting to the store for food is going to be a pain the next couple of weeks-so if I got pinks or fuzzier or even crawlers, they wouldn't make it very long without momma dukes. SO I asked about hoppers in order to get 15
At a time, do three feedings or so before going back to the store.

Hoppers should be weaned, but ask the store to be certain. Wouldn't they be fully grown by your last feed though? Would that be a problem?

Well a baby BP can eat bigger then a hopper mouse, unless it's really really small.

Ok, I've never actually seen a hopper mouse, since I feed f/t rats, so I don't know how big they are.

maybe frozen thawed?

that should stop them from growing and resolve the milk issue :D

if its several BP hatchlings, maybe you can get some, or most, on frozen thawed.

Well I plan to feed every 4-5 days. Maybe 15 is a little much for the five

Right, I understand that. I was just tryin to get something weaned so that I cld have multiples in the event I can't get back to the store on day five from first feeding. Or if they don't eat first attempt.

F/t is def the plan-but i doubt they'll take to it first feeding. Unless others have had luck..this would totally save me a ton of hassle!!

They all hatched last weekend so I'm hoping for sheds soon

Going to the store multiple times is possible. It's just not going to be economical or ideal but i will do it
If I can't figure out a better idea

So 15 would last 3 feedings, if fed 5 days apart and you feed shortly after getting them that would only be 10ish days.... they would be at least small adult mice by last feeding which should be no problem
